Pinterest – for many people, it’s a place for fashion, lifestyle, or home improvement how-tos. But if you’re growing and maintaining a personal or a professional brand, this social media platform takes your marketing to greater heights.
But the thing is, not a lot of entrepreneurs and marketers are maximizing the marketing powers of Pinterest. Also, there are so many Pinterest marketing tips out there; which ones to try? Save time and get more mileage from your marketing efforts; here are the ones that have been tried and tested:
You might think that pinning more than 3 images on Pinterest is excessive, but no, the more pins you create, the better the results. In fact, you should schedule at least 5 pins a day. Five to thirty pins a day is ideal. The key here is to space out your pins to boost engagement.
You’ll need a scheduler to set the pins ahead of time. The consistent volume of Pinterest content will get people’s attention much more effectively. If you’re not spacing out your pins, you might end up saturating your audience’s feeds with bursts of content.
Rich pins are a Pinterest feature that lets you add more information on the pins you create. These pins are meant to provide better results for content creators and greater details to followers. You can use this feature to insert your primary keywords and optimize your Pinterest content. There are five types of rich pins, these are:
Article pins: includes the headline, URL, author, and article description
Product pins: Availability, pricing, where to buy, and relevant product infos
Recipe pins: list of ingredients, cooking instructions, and serving tips
Movie pins: movie titles, cast members, and movie reviews
Place pins: address, phone number, and directions
You’ll have to apply to enable rich pins on your Pinterest and generate a code that you can copy-paste on your website. Validation won’t happen automatically, so it’s best to apply as soon as you’ve made a Pinterest account. By optimizing every pin with rich pins, your Pinterest content could gain more clicks.
Pinterest works as a search engine for images, so it’s not surprising that there are guidelines to image ratios. To attract online users, your images should stand out in the searches. Vertical pins with an aspect ratio (height and width of an image) of 2:3 or 1:3.5, and a minimum width of 600 pixels work best. Remember, pins tend to be cut off in the feeds if the ratio is greater than 1:3.5, so create the right-sized images to attract more attention.
If you’re creating the images from scratch, edit the aspect ratio on any photo editing tool like Photoshop or Canva. Be sure that every image you pin on your blog is Pinterest optimized. This way, you don’t have to edit every image that you pin on the platform. Shoot for at least one Pinterest-optimized image for every blog post you publish.
To stand out on Pinterest and gain more clicks, you need to work on the photo descriptions. Your photo descriptions should be keyword-optimized, highly detailed, grammatically correct, and free from hashtags. Avoid using promotional infos (15% off, promo codes) because these could turn people off. Avoid sales pitches of any kind; the description should be detailed and helpful.
While descriptions are only about 75-100 characters in grid view, as much as 500 could appear when people click to see the pin up-close. While short descriptions get a lot of clicks, long keyword-rich descriptions extend the life of the pins. Also, these perform better on search engines. Add a shortened link to every pin because Pinterest makes the links bold in the description, something that draws the eyes in.
The most popular posts on Pinterest are mosaics. Mosaics consists of multiple images within a pin + a walkthrough. Mosaics are best for DIY posts and how-to guides. When posting mosaics, keep the number of images four or fewer. Again, you can use any photo editing tool like Photoshop or Canva to create the images for the mosaic.
Pins with a text overlay is a popular format on Pinterest; it gets a ton of likes and repins! A text overlay consists of a headline or description referencing the pin or the full article. Use a photo editing tool to add a text overlay to your images. Be sure that the text overlay's size, style, and orientation look good on the image; none of the texts are cut off or too big.
Each time you post a new blog on social media, add a pin for later or read it later so that your followers can catch up on your new content easily. To do this, pin an image for the new blog, then grab the URL for the pin. Share the URL along with the blog post as a “pin for later “ on your social media; that’s it. Viewers could simply save your pin to their respective boards and return to your content at a later time when they’ll be able to sit down and focus on it.
Keywords are quite useful when creating blog post boards. Adding target words like social media, online marketing, or Facebook on a board helps organize your content so viewers can find your content easily. Of course, inserting keywords into board descriptions could also boost overall user engagement and followers. It’s worth trying to make your boards as visible and organized as possible.
When adding board descriptions, keep them as short and focused as possible. Use keyword-friendly descriptions to get more impressions like “Online Marketing Tips” or “Social Media Tips.”
