Reading Time: 4 minutesIt’s called blogger burnout, and it’s real! It affects all bloggers, including massively successful influencers and personalities. This shows that no matter how passionate, driven, and successful you are in what you do, no one is exempted from feeling tired, detached, and enthusiastic from running a business because of burnout.
Not everyone is lucky enough to do what you love and pursue your passions, whether it’s a full-time job or a side hustle. But don’t feel guilty if you feel like your blogging life has become less exciting or cumbersome.
Don’t feel bad or guilty for feeling less than excited doing something you love; it happens to everyone. Thankfully, you can do something about burnout; here are some tips:
Managing a thriving business at home definitely has its perks. You can work any time of the day and control the amount of time you spend blogging. But when you’re working from home, it’s hard to draw the line between working and not working. Slowly, work creeps its way into your home life – turning your living space into one workspace. Eventually, any spot turns into a space to work, work, work and you start forgetting about the time, and there lies the problem.
Lines must be drawn even if you work from home. Don’t be available 24/7 to blog. Handle the biz at reasonable times. Take breaks from your blog, and don’t feel guilty about it! Spend your breaks on activities that have nothing to do with your business to clear your head and relax. Finally and most importantly, plan your content in advance so you can stick to a set schedule and work doesn’t end up spilling all over your personal life.
When you’re managing a business at home, you should fit blogging into your regular home routines and not the other way around. Sometimes it’s unavoidable to spend a little more time working when you shouldn’t be because you have a deadline to meet, but your business shouldn’t take over your life at home.
One way to keep your work tasks manageable is to create a realistic set of goals and stick to a defined schedule. If you miss one or two blog posts in a week, that’s fine, the sky won’t fall, but you need to be realistic with your expectations. You can’t attract new customers with stale content, but you can’t work your fingers to the bone with a twice-a-day blog publishing either. It’s about finding a balance between your work and home life and being realistic with your current setup.
Apart from building and nurturing relationships with clients, you should build relationships with your friends and family. Virtual interactions are great because the internet made it so easy to reach out to people all over the world at any given time. That’s key to effective marketing.
But no matter how busy life gets, it’s important to log off and focus on real-life relationships. When things at work get too overwhelming or if you find yourself spending more time interacting online than bonding with your family, take a break. Real-life friends and family are your support system. Strengthening your relationships with those closest to you make your reality infinitely better.
Work can sometimes be draining, and when it is, you’re less motivated to find new ideas to attract more customers. Thankfully, inspiration is everywhere. Do what you love doing to refresh your mind – like taking a 30-minute walk, enjoying a cup of coffee at a nearby coffee shop, meeting friends, hanging out at the local park with Fido, or simply curling up with a good book at home during breaks.
Online, try reading inspirational blogs, TED talks, podcasts, or watching videos that make you feel motivated and inspired. Take five to ten minutes of your time watching inspirational content, and in no time at all, your creative juices will start flowing!
While it’s nice to go about your work routine because it’s comforting, dependable, and predictable, dishing out the same old could be doing a number on your mindset. You’ll end up being bored and unexcited about promoting your content if you’re offering the same old things.
Don’t be afraid of changing things up. Try offering content in different formats to see which ones work for your target audience. For example, if you’ve only been posting blogs, why not create a podcast or a short clip to support the storytelling. You can also try changing mediums, going from blogging to vlogging every once in a while to make your business relatable to viewers.
Experimenting with different formats will give you a rush of energy, and perhaps, it will help generate creative ideas to boost your business.
No blogger is exempted from burnout. Thankfully, you can control every aspect of your business because you’re working from home. With these tips, you’ll find the motivation and energy to market your business and come out with killer content!
