The DOs of Pinterest Marketing
DO know your audience
Like traditional digital SEO marketing, you need to know to who to market your Pinterest pins and content for. Whether creating content for your blog or publishing pins, you need to conduct market research to attract your ideal audience! To start, you need to know the following:
- The demographics of your readers
- The struggles of your target audience
- What solutions to offer
The key here is to present helpful information and solve problems. Presentation is just as important; your content quality must be stellar to attract your target audience.
DO upgrade to a business account
Whether you’re building an online presence as a personal brand or a business brand, it’s a must to sign up for a business account on Pinterest. Why? This will unlock specific features that you won’t get in a Personal account, like analytics and ads. With these tools, you can track your marketing efforts and create ads to elevate your online presence within the platform.
If you have a personal Pinterest account, you can create a linked Business account, create a new Business Account, or convert your personal account into a business account.
DO claim your website
To make sure that you own the site, you have to claim it on Pinterest. Do this after setting up your Pinterest business account. Once you’ve claimed the website, you will be given two verification methods:

DON’T pass off other people’s photos as your own pins
This practice is frowned upon. Use your own stock images or, better yet, professional photos for your pins.
DON’T use Pinterest images on your site
Unless you have permission to post the images from the owner, never use Pinterest images as promotional content on your website. Unless you came up with the visuals, do not use other people’s content as marketing materials.
DON’T repin user images without marketing your own
You have to benefit from your marketing efforts even when repinning other people’s photos. A clever copy and a link to your own content should always accompany repins.
DON’T repin images with improper source
Avoid repinning images that are not properly sourced. If you came across a pin that does not source properly, try leaving a comment to the original pinner to update the images.
DON’T pin and repin the same content

DON’T add too many hashtags
