Reading Time: 3 minutesA few months ago we started working with Rachel Mummert – Owner of Rachel Mummert Photography – to build a brand new home for her newborn photographs. We wanted to put together a design that would really let her adorable images do the talking for her and showcase her best work. Looking at cute new babies all day, every day, must be such a hard job Rachel… haha. It certainly put a smile on my face every morning I opened up her site!
I am a newborn and child photographer. I began my business in 2013 after suffering the loss of our first baby boy. I took a camera course at a local college to try to get myself and my life back on track, and that one course snowballed into my love of photography. I opened my business about a year later.
I am lucky in that I have a background in business from my previous career, so thankfully I was pretty well versed on how to begin and run a profitable business. I definitely feel as though I could have had more experience with the editing and post-processing side of the business though, as I wasted a lot of time with tedious editing tasks that would've been easier had I been more well versed.
People offered to pay me!!! I was doing newborn sessions for our friends for free to try to gain experience and practice. When people started offering to pay me, I knew I was on the right track and began the process of becoming a legit legal business.
I just really loved Gillian's personality and I had a good feeling after our initial chat. It is important to me to be able to mesh with someone, and feel as though they “get me” before hiring them. Having that one-on-one conversation with Gillian put my mind at ease. Even though she was an ocean away, I knew she would get the job done for me.
I really enjoyed seeing the site come to life. I gave very little parameters because I really just did not know what I wanted, but as soon as I saw what Gillian had put together, I was so excited. She really nailed it right from the start with the layout and colors she selected. I was so pleased with her work and will definitely hire her again as my business grows and the website expands.
