Reading Time: 3 minutesWhat is a vision board, and how can it help you achieve your ideal brand? Let’s learn all about vision boards and how it can inspire you to build a better brand with this guide.
What is the first thing that comes to your mind when designing anything? When you’re designing something, anything, the first thing that you should think about is the story that you want to tell. What is the message that you’d like to convey, what is your brand about, and why they should choose you?
Your story helps connect with people who are looking for the exact product or service that you offer. When people could relate to your story, you are likely to attract the right people.
Telling a story is not limited to writing your story, you can do so by collecting relevant images. As they say, a picture paints a thousand words, so a series of relevant images help create the narrative of your business. The direction is just as important. You want to tell the story through images in the direction that you want. And to do that, you have to create a vision board.
A vision board is a tool that lets you define and highlight all the elements that are important to you. Think of it as a sacred space where you can display all the things you want or hope to achieve.
One might think that a vision board is nothing more than a bunch of pictures but the way the human brain works makes vision boards very effective in terms of helping you achieve whatever goal you have in your life – in this case, building your dream brand and connecting with the right people.
Visualization and the power of suggestion let you attract all the opportunities that lead towards your goal. We see athletes and dancers performing amazing feats just because they could think of it.
Whether or not you believe it, visualization is no doubt, a powerful motivator. When you know what your long-term vision is, you have better chances of achieving it.
The first step in creating a vision board is to collect images that truly represent your brand. Think of your business’ vision and mission, what story would you like to tell with these using pictures? What kind of emotions would you like to elicit from these images? What vibe or mood would you like to put people in when they see your brand?
Think about what you want your ideal client to feel whenever he or she looks at your branding. If you’re selling aromatherapy products, then you’re probably envisioning a serene oasis or perhaps, a relaxing spa, being pampered with aromatherapy treatments. Avoid anything that could take you further away from what you’d like people to feel when they think of your brand.
When it comes to the aesthetic you’d like to adopt for your brand, you have to be specific. There should be no room for doubt or confusion; otherwise, the message will be lost on your ideal client. Choose imagery that sums up the look you’d like your brand to project. The aesthetic should be in line with your other branding elements, so tell a story.
For instance, if you want your aesthetic to be minimalist, choose images that inspire this vibe. Minimalism could be translated to clean, simple images, skinny typography, or neutral and white colour schemes.
… and on the subject of colour scheme, be sure that your visuals are sticking to a specific colour scheme. Consistency is important when you’re trying to build a brand – the visuals should be cohesive to define your brand. Remember, colours elicit specific emotions and perceptions. Colours can be used to convey a message or experience. If you want to evoke specific emotional responses among your target audience, use a set of colours that truly represents your dream brand.
Now that you have an idea of what your dream brand would look like, you can start piecing together all the images that capture your brand's essence into one vision board.
If you’re all about minimalism, your vision board should be simple and organized to put yourself in that headspace. Once you're done piecing together a vision board, look at it every day so you can visualize your ideal brand and turn it into a reality. Believe that you can build your dream brand and you will!
Creating an inspiring vision board sounds complicated, but it’s anything but! With these tips, you’ll have no problem building your dream brand.
