Content is the heart of your business.
No matter what type of business you own, you need content out there for your audience to see.
That's how people are going to get to know, like and trust you.
But with Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook, Podcasting, communities, blogging, Instagram Stories, Snapchat…it's a lot and overwhelming as all heck.
And you know you always see those people who are on everything all the time.
How do they do it?
I'll let you in on a little secret.
It's called repurposing and it's way simpler than you think.
No, actually it's not.
Most people do not actually get the chance to see your content because social media moves so quickly and people are busy looking at the millions of things they have to look at through the day.
People also have their preferred way of consuming content.
Some days I like to listen to a Podcast but then I'll usually go back and read the corresponding blog post to go along with it just in case I missed anything.
In all reality, most people are not going to be following you on every single one of your platforms because well, we value our time and only want to consume your content on our favorite platforms.
We already know the internet moves quickly.
What's trending one day will be tomorrows trash by 5 o' clock.
Repurposing your content gives you the chance to get your content in front of more eyes because you're putting it “out there” multiple times instead of just once.
This saves you a ton of time, builds a bigger more engaged audience and boosts your traffic across the internet.
Depending on your preferred type of content, you're going to start there.
Create an in-depth Podcast or Video and transcribe into a blog post.
You can also do this the other way around where you're blog post is already written and can be used as a script for your video or podcast.
I like to start with one of these three platforms because these pieces of content are usually larger and can be very easily broken down for social media.
I'm all about making your life just a little bit easier.
Another thing you can do to make your life even easier is if you have a podcast episode that corresponds with your blog post you can easily embed it into your blog with Pat Flynn's tool, Smart Podcast Player.
That way you can keep your audience on your blog post longer, reuse your content AND give your audience multiple ways to learn from you.
WIN WIN WIN!
Now that you have video content, either from creating a youtube video from your blog post or filming yourself while podcasting (yes), you easily cut that video down into bite-sized pieces for either Snapchat or Instagram Stories.
Another way to reuse video content is to go back a few days later and see if there are any comments from your audience that are looking for more tips on a particular topic you discussed on your video.
This can then be broken down into a mini-lesson for both Snapchat and Instagram Stories.
You can also do this same exact thing with Instagram TV.
You could even give your audience a quick behind the scenes while you're setting up to record for your video/podcast.
Next up is a Facebook Live video.
For this, you could turn your live video into a Q&A session on what you talked about in your blog/Podcast/youtube video.
You could also go more in depth on another topic that your audience is curious about.
Facebook Lives are going a bit similar to repurposing your content to Snapchat and Instagram stories but in this case, the longer the better!
Another way to integrate both Instagram and Facebook is to do a Facebook Live AND an Instagram Live at the same time.
Again, this could be a quick behind the scenes of you getting ready for a podcast, or getting ready to go out.
Whatever fits the best with your audience and still helps you push out content.
When I talk about social media, I'm talking about Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest.
Yes, I know Pinterest isn't a social media but it's it's gonna hang out here.
Each of these platforms is very different in how the audience consumes content but because we've already got multiple pieces of content to choose from this is the easy part.
While aesthetically pleasing visuals are a must on Instagram, you also have to have engaging, entertaining, motivating or inspiring written content below those pictures.
This is where things get even easier.
You probably have a few sentences or even a paragraph that's really well written and can easily stand alone and make sense from your blog post.
Post those sentences or paragraph to your Instagram with a pleasing picture and you have yourself a piece of content that your audience will love!
Instagram users don't tend to like especially long captions below pictures so try to keep it short, sweet and to the point.
Oh, and don't forget your call to action at the bottom after your post and make sure to engage with comments for the first 30 minutes following a post.
Instagram is leaning more towards comments than “likes” when looking at content to push out.
Twitter is all about quick, short sentences.
140 characters to be exact.
This is fantastic news for you when you're trying to repurpose your content across your social media platforms.
You already have your written content.
You even have a shortened version of your content on your Instagram or Facebook page so all you have to do is shorten it just a little bit more and post it on Twitter.
You can also share your youtube videos or latest and greatest blog posts directly to Twitter for people to view the entire piece of content.
The reason I prefer to share just snippets of content is because you can spread out these smaller pieces of content for an entire month!
Yup, that's right, create one piece of content that can be spread out over an entire month for social media!
I'll take it!
Pinterest is my favorite place to promote content because it literally lasts forever.
So, you've already got at least a few blog posts, videos, podcasts and even social media posts up and ready to go.
All you have to do for Pinterest is create a few different pin images in canva.com and start pinning away.
Of course, there's a bit more to it than that.
But remember to utilize keywords, use pins that your audience resonates with and be consistent.
There you have it.
