You hear it all the time, “how to blog”, “boost traffic to your blog by 300% in two days”, “here's how to find blogging topics”.
The list goes on.
But why in the heck do you need a blog?
What benefit will it bring to you?
I mean dang, you're already promoting your products on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter!
So why would you add another piece of content you have to create weekly?
Look, if you're anything like me, when you hear about something you “should” be doing you're like, “why though?”
I want to know why.
Why am I doing that, why do I need to be doing that?
Just tell me why!
So today, I'm bringing you six reasons why you need a blog for your business because I know your sick of hearing what you need to do and now you need a few reasons why.
If you didn't already know, your blog has the potential to bring you the most traffic to your products, builds your email list like no body's business and come on, it's fun!
No, but seriously, a blog is an important aspect of business and it's something you should seriously consider when building a business and selling paid products.
Now I know you're anxious to get started and answer that age-old question, “why though.”
So I'm just going to dive right in!
We've all started from the bottom, now we're here.
Look, we've all been a beginner at business or blogging at some point or another right, and it was tough at first to get clients or to sell our products because people didn't know who we were or even if we knew what the heck we were talking about.
Why would someone buy from you or hire you if you appear to have no experience in that particular field?
And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you need a degree or even to be an all-knowing expert, but yeah, you need to show you have some knowledge within your niche.
And to do so, you have to give away some free content, for example, a blog.
Yup, that's where your blog comes in on a white horse singing your praises.
Okay, maybe not that dramatic but your blog is one of the best tools to show you know your stuff.
You are blogging about something specific and you are already helping people with free content.
And if your blog is well written, gives great information and actually helps people, they are more likely to purchase your products or hire you for jobs.
That's the dream, right?
To be the go-to person for finance or DIY or fancy recipes.
And that's what a blog helps you do.
The more you write detailed, helpful and valuable blog posts, the more your traffic will grow and the more people will search you out for answers on a particular topic.
If you play your cards right, you can turn your blog into a community of people that are looking to you for answers.
That's what you want, to build a tribe of people that love and listen to what you have to say.
Not only that, people will get to know you and begin to come to you with questions, which helps build your business in the long run.
SEO, search engine optimization, it's how well and easily people can find your website online.
If people can't find you, they won't buy from you and they sure won't get to know you.
But by adding a blog to your website, it helps boost how easily your website is found and how valuable your website appears to search engines.
Search engines are looking to show only what they believe in the most valuable content.
You don't go to Google, or Pinterest looking for a one-word answer to a question, right?
No, you want details, you want info, you want it all.
That's what search engines are looking for, so if you don't have a blog on your website, search engines won't see that site as particularly valuable.
When you add a blog with lots of words, 1200-1500 to be exact, and a few pictures, search engines see that as added content and therefore added value.
They can see that you are better equipped to answer a question someone is asking.
This makes your website with your products and services move up higher in the search engine feed and makes it easier for your website to be found.
How's it going?
Are you staying with me?
This is some good stuff, so pay attention because we only have two reasons left and then you can go back to taking cute photos of your dog with Halloween costumes on.
And no, I don't mean a grocery list building machine, I mean an email list building machine.
Another term you've heard a ton floating around, “build your email list!”
Heck yeah building your email list is important and it's not as simple as sometimes portrayed.
You have to share your lead magnets everywhere you can, so why not add a few to your blog?
People need to see something seven times before they act on it and if you're not using your blog to build your list, you are missing out.
Let's think about this for a moment, person “A” comes to your blog, reads said blog, loves said blog and gets to the end only find…nothing.
Person “A” leaves said blog and carry on with their day.
And you missed an opportunity there to build your list!
What you could have done instead is added a content upgrade throughout your blog as well as at the end.
You can also add an email list sign up at the very end of your blog so if someone enjoys your content, they can continue to get free content directly to their emails.
See, if someone takes the time to read your blog and enjoys it, give them a piece of gated content that they have to sign up for.
More times than not, if they enjoyed your blog, they will sign up for it.
Once you write your blog post, it's up there, for everyone to see until you decide to take it down.
That can't be said for social media.
You post something and it's gone in sixty seconds.
Okay, another exaggeration but you get the picture.
Your blog content lives on much longer than other pieces of content.
You can even go back into old blog posts, spruce them up and start sharing them again like new posts.
This is why I love blogging so much because your blog post is going to continue to circulate the internet and help people long after you've written it.
Someone can literally go to your blog years from now and still benefit from a post you posted.
That's pretty cool to me.
And if you're a content creator like me, you know how much time, energy and maybe a few tears go into creating content for it to just disappear into the abyss of social media.
Just another reason to blog and let your content live on for as long as you want it to!
And you can update it as times change because they will.
Monetization, everyone's favorite word it seems like.
While the main goal of your blog is to help your target audience, it's, of course, an incredible tool for business and making money.
And let's just be honest with ourselves, free content is great and all but we don't take it as seriously as something we've invested money into right?
So here are a few ways you can go about monetizing your blog.
You can post your paid products on your blog if you feel they are relevant and will help your audience.
Like I said, free products are great but we don't value them as much as something we've paid for.
So if you have a product that you know can provide the results and value your audience is looking for, add it to your blog posts.
Affiliate marketing is also a way to make a few extra bucks or more if you play your cards right.
Of course, there are a few more “rules” with affiliate marketing with your blog, like disclosing that there are affiliate links within your blog before the actual links.
But they are a way to make some money off your blog content.
The last and final way is a bit more indirect.
Like I said above, your blog is a list building machine, the more people you have on your email list, the more money you can make.
People that are on email lists are more whiling to spend money than those that are not.
You can now resume taking cute pictures of your dog with a bumble bee costume on…
