How to Set up a Simple Sales Funnel

When you think sales funnels, you usually don’t put the word “simple” with it, but it doesn’t need to be overly complicated to be successful.

You just need a strategy and a way to see if it’s actually working or not.

While sales funnels can be as complex as you want to make them, you can also set them up fairly simply and I’m going to break down this process into just a few steps.

Why do you need a Sales Funnel?

First, I want to answer the question, “why though.”

Because sometimes, we just want to skip ahead to the paid ads, to the making all the money and not really set anything up.

But, if you want to make more sales, sell to a “warm” audience or an audience that already knows, likes and trusts you, then you need to have some form of sales funnel.

A sales funnel is also another tool that can help you automate your business and make running your business just a little smoother.

What is a Sales Funnel?

In a nutshell, a sales funnel is just that, a funnel that takes a large audience or a large amount of traffic and filters it down to individual desired outcomes.

These outcomes are usually someone purchasing your product or service.

Not everyone that visits your site or your blog is going to buy from you, heck, maybe they aren’t even interested in you at all and a sales funnel helps you to filter those people out.

A sales funnel also helps you build a relationship before the offer or the sale.

People are more likely to buy from you if they already know, like and trust you as I said above.

You are showing people that you know your stuff, you have incredible value to offer and they know your paid content is going to be incredible.

Now enough, jibber jabber, let’s dive in!

1. Start with a Blog Post, Youtube Video or Facebook Video

First, we’re going to begin by assuming you are one of these platforms, some form of social media.

You are active on this platform and your videos or blog posts or whatever are being seen even if it’s just from a small audience.

If you are not on some kind of social media platform or even blogging, you need to start there.

This is going to be the first step to establishing yourself as an expert and showing your audience that you know your stuff.

Anything you post on these platforms is considered “open” material.

Nobody has to give you anything in exchange to see your videos, or posts or whatever.

So it’s the easiest for your audience to see.

2. Using one or multiple social media platforms, you are going to offer a Free Product or Service

Offering a free product or service allows you give your audience something of value for free of course and gets them “warmed” up.

This type of free content will be gated, meaning they need to give you their email address to get their free download.

People guard their emails so you know if they were willing to give you their email, they’re already interested in you and what you have to offer.

This free product or service can be anything you want.

A free ebook, video training series, a PDF, literally, anything. Just make sure it is very valuable and gives your audience some kind of result quickly.

You also want to make sure this ties in with your paid product which is the next step.

This step also helps you build your email list which is extremely important for the longevity of your business!

Win, Win!

You are going to put this free product or service in multiple places around your blog, within any and all relevant blog posts, in descriptions of your youtube videos, in captions for social media…you get the idea.

Tell your audience you have something for them.

They won’t know if you don’t tell them!

Step three scenario one: Build the relationship with Emails​

Once you have someone on your list, you already know they are interested in what you have to offer but maybe they just need a little bit more time with you.

Test the waters, see what more you have.

This is when you can send three to four emails that are rich with even more content that pertains to the free offer.

You can also use this time to introduce yourself and build that relationship!

Make sure to have a “p.s” at the bottom letting them know you have a paid product to offer as well.

At the end of the email series, you are going to send an email with your paid offer in it.

Tell them why it’s so cool, how it’s going to help them and why they need it.

If they don’t buy, continue to give them high-quality content within their emails and then restart the process over.

Step three Scenario Two: 

As soon as someone downloads your free product or service you can offer them an upsell.

An upsell is just a paid product that goes with the free product they just downloaded.

It’s letting them know, “hey I have something of even more value for you!”

This product is something that is on the lower end in price, it’s easily digestible and something people that are just getting to know you are likely to purchase.

4. Simply Continue to Build the Relationship

Regardless of if someone buys from you or not, make sure to continue to give them value through emails, training, blog posts, videos, whatever you have because down the road, they are much more likely to purchase from you if they’ve received tons of value from you.

As you have more products to offer, you will send emails letting them know you have something amazing for them!

A simple, broken down, step-by-step sales funnel!

Of course, you can make it as simple or as complicated as you want but you just have to do something and all you need to start with is a place where people see you and a product to offer to them!
