How to create the perfect business bio on Instagram? If you’re stumped, that’s totally normal — we’ve all been there!
It's hard to write an IG business bio when you have so many things that you want to say! You want to sound engaging, persuasive, and compelling — all in 150 characters or less. So how do you do it? How to create the best Instagram bio for your business? Try these tips:
IMPORTANT: Just to make sure your IG bio looks organized, break each sentence into a line. Limit the lines to three because IG will cut off the fourth line.
Since you are only given 150 characters to introduce people to your business, there is no room for mistakes! You need to talk directly to your target audience. The first line in the IG bio should be the niche that your business belongs to. Be specific so that people will know right away what you sell and what your brand is all about.
When writing your business bio on IG, think about who you are as a business, who you're helping, and how.
If you're selling pastry and you specialize in wedding cakes, visualize how you'd introduce your business to your ideal client in person — “This is what I do, and this is how I can help you.” Focus on solving a specific problem and avoid fluffing up your bio with a tagline.
Example: “Award-winning pastry chef specializing in bridal cakes and desserts!” Or you can find more Instagram bio ideas here.
When checking out your IG profile, you want people to trust your business right away. So leave the second line to establish your authority. You want to show people that you're there to provide solutions to their problems.
If you have relevant experience under your belt – certification, awards, notable clients, collabs – don’t be modest. This is the perfect time to show these off. Again, be specific. Add numbers if you can, like the number of products you sold, the amount of money the business generated, number of people you've helped.
Again, if you're a pastry chef, you can key in the school you've gone to, recognition from popular brands, or the number of cakes you've made.
Example: Chef de Partie at [Restaurant name] | 10,000+ wedding cakes and counting | Featured on Bridal Guide/Cookbook [or other platforms].
A call to action gives readers a specific reason why they should click the link in your bio. Think of it as a gentle nudge that’ll push readers to take the desired action.
The call to action should be short and specific because every character literally counts. So what's in it for your followers to click that link, a 10% discount, a free guide, or a short email course? Choose an incentive that people find valuable, something they’ll care about to get them to take the desired action.
Example: DL my Cookbook/Recipe Guide: [link]
Of course, you need to optimize your IG business bio for better searchability. As you know, Google is now using hashtags as benchmarks for searchability. Incorporating relevant keywords ensures that your profile will appear in specific searches.
Optimizing your IG profile starts with your display name. Your primary keywords should appear in your Display Name and Handle. It's best to use a single handle for all of your social media profiles for consistency. Sprinkle the secondary keywords in the IG bio (like Wedding pastry chef, wedding cakes and desserts, etc.)
… and there you have it, the perfect IG bio for your business. When it comes to writing the perfect IG bio, it’s important to be specific so that you’ll attract the right followers. With these tips, you’re ready to start gaining more followers!
