Reading Time: 2 minutesNot all products can be exciting as a flashy new Ferrari or a slick Apple computer, but that does not mean that you cannot effectively promote them and make them desirable to your customer base.
If your product is something that is a bit more practicable, and you’re wrecking your brains about how to sell it to your customers, here are a few tips that should help:
Your product, whether it is a push switch that enables electricity to flow through a doorbell or a steamer that will remove the wrinkles from your clothing, has a purpose. By focusing in on the reason why your customers need the product, rather than trying to sell it on its style or desirability like you might an Apple phone or a designer handbag, is the way to go.
Customers have a range of problems that they need to be solved, If your product solves one or more of those problems and you can clearly demonstrate how it is able to do so, then you will not have to do much selling at all.
For example, if your product is a left-handed can opener that helps customers to open cans quickly without any spillage issues or accidents, all you have to do is sow a left-handed person using it, and customers who have problems with right-handed can openers will be lining up to make a purchase!
A lot of businesses think that their marketing has to be all more, more, more; that they need to use more words and images to persuade someone to buy. When you have a nuts and bolts product to sell, this is often unnecessary and ineffective. Simply state what it does and why your target audience may want to buy it in a simple and understandable way and you may get much better results than ever before.
Something else that may work is to tell the story of your brand and how your “boring” product came into existence. Maybe you were working as teacher and you were sick of getting ink stains on your clothing, so you chase up with an ink that could easily be washed away, or maybe you wanted to come up with the world’s strongest washer because you were always hearing about how often they failed. Think about why you started making the product you did and turn it into a compelling narrative that will draw people in.
If all else fails, it can never hurt to be as funny as possible about your product. Let people know that although it might not be the most exciting product, it is useful and you do have a sense of humor about it. Make people laugh and they will buy anything from you!
As you can see, promoting your more practical products, and those items that may be considered a bit boring is totally doable, and actually, it may be a lot easier than you think!
