Reading Time: 4 minutesHow to make sure that you’re getting the most of your day with effective social media marketing? These are the tasks that will boost your productivity and achieve better results!
Social media can get confusing especially if you're a beginner or solopreneur. When utilized properly, social media is one powerful marketing tool – able to take any business in front of customers with just a click of a button.
But make some (avoidable) mistakes, and it can all come crashing down. That's why your social media strategy should be well-planned. Everything has to be done intentionally to attract the eye and build user engagement. But if you have a lot on your plate, it's hard to focus on the many things needed to create an effective marketing strategy on social media. But we’re here to help! Here are all the tasks that you should add to your social media checklist. Make sure to never miss a single one!
This is the first thing you need to do before going about your day at work – check your social media calendar. This way, you’ll know what content goes live at what date, what deadlines you have to meet, and what posts need to be prioritized.
Different social media sites have different ideal posting schedules. Here are some tips to keep in mind:
Joining the conversation helps build a deep connection with your audience while fostering trust. Track the recent posts for comments, questions, or feedback on a public post or in the inbox. Monitor your mentions and respond.
If people asked questions, answer them or get someone to answer them for you – like an assistant or a social media manager. If you got negative feedback, don’t ignore it, delete it, or worse, lash out at the person online. Answer thoughtfully, solve the issue, and reach out to the person in private to smooth things over.
Take a few moments to check out trending topics and hashtags in your niche industry and incorporate these into future posts. You can also check out the competition and see which topics and hashtags they use to attract followers and boost user engagement. What works for them could also work for you!
When checking out hashtags for future social media posts, check for branded hashtags, seasonal hashtags, or geo-hashtags. Branded hashtags are customized for a specific brand, like McDonald’s #imlovinit or Coke’s #ShareACoke. Seasonal hashtags are hashtags used during the holiday season like Christmas, Halloween, Valentine, etc. Geo hashtags are location-based hashtags like #NYCpizza #Seattlebakery, #SFchowder, etc.
To find out if your social media marketing efforts are paying off, you must check the metrics. Make a habit of doing this weekly just to see which areas of your marketing campaign need more work. Focus on generating high-quality content and keeping user engagement up for best results. Analytics to monitor include:
Your social media posts should be spread out every week to keep your updates consistent. You can check the Facebook analytics to see which times are best for posting content and start queuing the content on a scheduler. This way, the posts are published at specific times automatically.
What you want to avoid is to spam your followers with too much content in a day. One post a day should be good, or perhaps, about 20 posts in a month. If there’s a holiday coming up, be sure that the posts leading up to that day are holiday-related to achieve better results.
This is an excellent time to brainstorm for ideas, delegate tasks, and schedule meetings if you have a team. The meetings do not have to be long; just give your teammates a heads up to come up with ideas or prepare the docs they need for a presentation before the meeting to keep the flow smooth during the actual meeting.
Sit down with your marketing team (if you have one) and start planning the following posts next month. Check your editorial calendar to plan your future campaigns. Focus on celebrations and holidays if you are planning ahead. Start working on the content for the next month, then queue them in your scheduler.
Outline campaign themes and holidays for the next month and start pushing for marketing strategies to get more attention. Share ideas, keep the team involved and motivate them to develop great content for the next several weeks.
Collect all the analytics from your social media channels (some programs gather these data automatically) and analyze the numbers, particularly the top-level metrics. Compare the results month to month to see if there are dips in engagement. If there are, highlight these areas and find out why you’re not getting the desired results and what you can do to avoid it next time. Other analytics to review every month are:
And there you have it, all the social media tasks that you need to do on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. Keep all of these tips in mind, and you’ll soon find yourself growing a thriving online community. That’s marketing gold right there!
