Opening up the ClickUp notifications when you updated various parts of the website, it was like opening up an advent calendar full of pretty surprises, but instead of chocolate, it was updates on my beautiful new site.
Megan Jones – Basil & Bay
We're excited to share our recent project with you – the redesign of the Basil & Bay website for Megan Jones! Megan's a talented chef and food photographer, and her blog needed a refresh to showcase her amazing recipes and services better. We were thrilled to help her with a custom Showit website that's both beautiful and functional.
One of our favorite parts of the redesign was creating a recipe index that allows users to easily search for recipes by craving, season, and dietary requirements. Whether you're a raw vegan or gluten-free, looking for something sweet or savory, or want to find a recipe perfect for a cozy winter night in, Megan's site now makes it easy to find just what you're looking for. We're proud of how the site turned out, and we're confident that Megan's fans will love it too.
In addition to showcasing Megan's amazing recipes, we also wanted to highlight her services as a food photographer. We created a separate section on the website that showcases her stunning food photography portfolio, making it easy for potential clients to see the quality of her work and get in touch to book her services.
We wanted to make sure that Megan's website not only looked great but also helped her achieve her business goals. With the redesign, we're confident that her site will attract more visitors, engage her audience, and ultimately drive more sales of her services. Overall, we had a blast working with Megan and we're thrilled with how her new website turned out. We can't wait to see what she cooks up next!
We asked Megan a few questions:
Tell me a bit about your business and what brought you to start it in the first place?
Basil and Bay was started in late 2019, shortly after I went Plant based, As I have changed and grown as a human, the site too has evolved a few times since I started it. I wanted to create a open and welcoming space on my little slice of the internet, as somewhere for people to find “good for you”. food, guides, tips and tricks, with the odd indulgent twist thrown in, as life is short, so enjoy the cake, brownie, cookie 😉
What is one lesson that you wish you knew from the beginning?
DO NOT attempt to build your dream site yourself! I wasted so many weeks, if not months of trying to build/edit my site, as the standard blog templates just didn't set my soul on fire, did not fit me or the brand I am creating. I could have spent that time doing something much more productive for my business.
What was your “AH-HA” moment that made you take the plunge with a new site design?
When I came across Sarah from Broma Bakery, and she taught me that you can run a profitable creative business doing what you love, and still keep your personality front and centre. Joanie from The Bite Shot and Rachel Korinek from Two Loves Studio both taught me and gave me the confidence to pursue my photography and to work on constantly improving my skills and own style.
Out of all the amazing designers out there, why did you decide to work with us?
I think I was googling showit website designers, and came across your blog post after re-designing Nourishing Amy's site, from there I found myself down a rabbit hole reading all your blog posts, and having a nosey at your launches, I saw all your amazing reviews and how people mentioned you created their dream websites but still with their personality included, this was what I was after and then didn't hesitate to send you a message.
What was your favourite part of the design process?
Opening up the ClickUp notifications when you updated various parts of the website, it was like opening up an advent calendar full of pretty surprises, but instead of chocolate, it was updates on my beautiful new site. I absolutely ADORE the recipe index you have created, I love filtering it by the craving category. I love how you have managed to build me a site that perfectly encapsulates my brand, the message I want to convey, and you also gave me lots of advice and tips. I will deffo be back in your inbox when I need a shop adding 😉
