Reading Time: 3 minutesDid you know that we’re most productive between 9 to 11 in the morning?
But here’s the thing: the tasks we did and didn't do in the mornings will affect productivity the rest of the day. And by completing specific tasks in the morning, you can do more in your business on a daily, weekly, and even monthly basis.
Sticking to a morning work routine is a must, and yours should include getting around small tasks before 9 AM. In this guide, we’re listing down all the essential tasks that you need to tick off your list before 9M to ensure a productive day at work:
Rising early lets you do meaningful tasks outside your business, like making breakfast for your family, connecting with loved ones, taking a morning run, etc. By waking up early and getting things done for yourself and your loved ones, you’ll be in the right headspace to tackle whatever challenge you come across in your business! If you're not a morning person, we suggest setting your alarm an hour earlier to give yourself more time to wake up.
A light stretch, a little yoga, or Pilates in the morning helps energize the mind and body. These light exercises are pretty effective in waking up a fuzzy brain in the morning too! After doing light stretching, try meditating or saying a little prayer for a few minutes. Meditating or praying lets you connect with your inner self, so you feel more refreshed in the morning.
It’s easy to get lost in early morning busyness that we end up starting the day with already frazzled nerves! Practicing mindfulness helps quiet the brain, allowing us to focus on the now and savor the moment.
What is mindfulness, exactly? It’s a type of meditation that makes you hyper-aware of what you are feeling and sensing in a moment. The goal is to free the mind of judgment or interpretation that could otherwise distract you from the activity unfolding right in front of you. Practicing mindfulness includes breathing exercises, visualization, positive affirmations, and focusing on a specific activity to clear the mind of stresses that keep you from achieving a solid start.
A great way to practice mindfulness is to take time to enjoy a cup of coffee, tea, or smoothie in the morning. Focus on the act of sitting down, taking sips of your favorite morning drink, and savoring the flavor. Do not rush; take your time drinking your morning coffee and visualize a successful day at work to get into the right mindset.
Completing little tasks on your to-do list lets you complete big tasks. It feels good when we’ve achieved a goal, no matter how small, and this pushes us to take on bigger priorities without feeling overwhelmed or intimidated. If you can create a to-do list in advance, do it; otherwise, write your to-do list before coming in to work. This way, you have your day planned out ahead of time. Focus on what content you plan to create, what product or service you’d like to promote, or who to connect to within that day.
You want to be on top of the trends in your niche, so before you sit down and slay the day, search for the latest news to see what’s happening, what’s new, and what you might’ve missed while you were away. Bookmark headlines that piqued your interest or news that your audience might find interesting. You can do a little reading during your break too! The idea is to stay informed to improve your competence as a solopreneur as well as to spot and capitalize on trends before the competition.
Most of us tend to get too into emails that we end up spending a huge of our time just responding and sending emails. Don’t let your email own you, and never let others dictate your schedule. Choose two to three key emails to respond to and resist the urge to spend more than 30 minutes answering emails. Also, do the emails in the morning before any other tasks to get them out of the way. This strategy lets you focus on critical tasks and big priorities.
Spending your time wisely in the morning is key to a productive day. With these tips, you can waste less time and do more during your work hours. It’s important to stick to a routine that works best for you to set the tone for the rest of your day!
