Reading Time: 3 minutesIt's a brand new year, 2021, about time! Let's start this year off on a high with an annual four. What 4 things do I want to really concentrate on this year?
In March we are due to have our first baby. This is something my husband and I have been dreaming of since we first met, and we are so excited. We can't wait to meet the little guy.
Since starting my business 4 years ago, I believe I've taken about 3 weeks off in total. Taking time off now for baby is super important. And not only because I am so completely exhausted all of the time… We need to make sure he gets the love and attention he deserves, especially because looking at things, he will be born into a world of social distancing and very minimal social contact. It breaks my heart that his grandparents might not get to meet him for the first few months of his life. Here's hoping things get better, and quickly.
As a business owner, it is very easy to wear every hat imaginable. Through 2020 I made it my mission to get a great team behind me. I interviewed and trialled around 25 team members, and thankfully 10 of them have stuck. Some just handle small tasks like business blog formatting, some are in training for much bigger tasks, like optimising client websites for mobile. All of them have taken so much off my plate and I am so grateful for that.
Throughout 2021 I want to hand over a lot more control to them and make it so I don't need to be present for every single small task within my business. This will also help a lot with taking time off for the baby.
We all had a pretty weird 2020. I can count on one hand the number of time Nick and I got to see our parents. 2021 I want to be the year of family, especially with the baby on the way. 2020 was definitely the year of time to ourselves. Now I want to get back out there (when allowed of course) and get involved with what's going on in everyone's lives.
It's no secret that between Nick and I, we own a LOT of things (mainly Nick). We moved into our home in December 2019 and I feel we spent the entire 2020 unpacking and clearing out. We still have a long way to go, but this year I want to get our house feeling just like the home we always imagined. Paint all these perfectly white walls, maybe get some furniture that's not just from IKEA… Truly make it our happy place to be.
We have recently wallpapered the living room and the baby room and it makes my heart so happy to have some pattern and colour in the house finally. My top 4 priorities for the house this year are:
