Reading Time: 2 minutesThe primary purpose of a corporate event should be to build and improve your business in some way – whether it’s strengthening your team, generating extra sales or raising funds from investors. However, just because they’re a business event doesn’t mean that they have to be wholly serious. Making corporate events fun can keep attendees engaged and can make these events more memorable. This can help you to achieve your purpose – whether it’s bringing your team closer together or winning over clients. Below are just some of the ways to make corporate events more fun.
An exciting venue can encourage people to attend your event and help people to remember the experience. When choosing where to host your event, consider alternative venues. This could include historic buildings, art galleries, museums, quirky music venues or even a boat. When hiring out these alternative spaces, you may have to pay a little more and availability may be a little more limited, however it could make the event much more exciting. Just make sure the venue is practical for your needs such as having enough space for seating, an accessible location, or good event WiFi.
Some people may be happy to sit and watch a presentation for an hour, but others may find this dull. Involving your attendees will ensure that everyone is engaged. This could include holding polls or even quizzes, arranging team building activities (for employee events) or allowing clients to test out your product/service (at a sales conference). You could even consider hosting interactive competitions with prizes.
If you’re going to provide food and drink at your event, make sure that it’s not bland. Treat your attendees to an exciting buffet or consider taking them out for lunch. Alternatively, if it’s a short event, consider some fun drinks and snacks such as a complimentary glass of sparkling wine on arrival or canapes. You could hire a catering company to provide this food and drink if the venue doesn’t already provide it.
Providing some entertainment could also help to make your event more fun. This could be before or after any business proceedings. The type of entertainment is likely to depend on the type of event. Live music is likely to go down well at most events – this could be anything from a DJ at a launch party to a string quartet at a more formal investor event. You can look for live music performers using a music agency. Dancers, corporate comedians, firework displays and light shows are just some of the other options to consider.
Your corporate event still needs to be productive for both you and your attendees. Make sure that live bands, canapes and interactive activities don’t get in the way of your event’s true purpose. Whether it’s a launch party of a sales conference, it’s important to get any serious presentations or speeches out of the way early. You can then make the event more leisurely as it goes on – but make sure to still remind people of why they are there along the way.
