Reading Time: 4 minutesYou don't have to be an expert in everything you teach, you just have to be an expert in the way that you teach.
Understanding that you do have an expertise in something, in teaching others, is only half the battle but don't worry.
I got you.
I'm going to show you a few different ways you can go about showing your target audience that you know what the heck you're talking about.
Alright, your target audience, I am referring to the people you know that will be served by the service or product that you offer.
They get you, they like you, they trust you and they will be served by you.
I think sometimes we get so caught up in trying to be everywhere at once that we lost sight of the point of social media for business.
It's to serve your target audience so if you're on Instagram and your target audience doesn't use Instagram as much then you're just wasting your time there.
Make sure you are on platforms that serve YOUR audience.
Where do they hang out the most?
What platform is the best to serve them on?
This will also help alleviate some stress and you won't feel as though you have to be everywhere.
Okay, now that you know what your target audience is let's think about HOW we can establish our expertise.
This is extremely important to do before you begin your business because let's face it, if you've never talked about fitness to your target audience and then all of a sudden start offering personal training, people probably won't buy from you because you haven't given them any reason that you know what you're talking about in that field.
Webinars are a great way to not only build an email list but potential students can preview your teaching style and get to know you as an expert in that particular subject.
This is where you can really showcase how much value you can offer your audience and really let your personality shine.
Attend other webinars in your niche to see how a webinar is done from the student's perspective.
You can then figure what to do better based on what you liked and didn't like.
After your webinar, you can always offer your paid products as well.
Social media is kinda the no-brainer here.
We're all on it at one time or another during the day but you've got to use it wisely because we're not viewing it like we used to be.
With live video on both Facebook and Instagram, Instagram stories, Snapchat, plain old pictures and graphics on social media it can be hard to figure out what you should and shouldn't be doing to get the most bang for your buck.
Choose two or three social media challenges you will focus on and really drive that value.
Show your audience why they should be following you because we just don't have time anymore.
If you're not delivering value, they will unfollow and move onto someone else.
The key with using social media to drive your audience back to home base, your website.
It's not fun and you're going to lose people if you just send them around and around in circles to all of your social media pages.
Send them to one central place that is packed with even more value and that's where you can offer a selling point if you have one.
Blogging is my JAM and it's where you'll find me most of the time.
Blogging isn't just for those who love to write oh heck no, blogging is a fantastic way to show your audience that you know your stuff.
Heck, if you have an entire blog on dogs and all the fun things dogs do and your product is something relating to dogs or dog training, then people are more likely to buy from you.
I wish I could say blogging was as simple as slapping a few words onto a page and watching the traffic roll in while sipping a margarita, but it's not.
Times have changed and in 2019 you've got to step up our game in blogging.
If you're ready to get serious about blogging check out this post that takes you through the steps you need to take to have a successful blog in the first 90 days and if you don't think your business needs a blog, this post is for you.
The obvious search engines are Google, Bing, Yahoo and while you're not directly showing your expertise on them, they do pick up your blog posts, youtube videos, and even Pinterest graphics to show in relevant searches.
While I think you should focus on Google I also think you should focus on another search engine, Pinterest.
Pinterest is one of the best ways to show your audience you know what you're talking about because you're literally setting up a profile based on your niche and only showing them what is of value to them.
Pinterest also drives 80% of my daily and monthly traffic but you can read more about Pinterest marketing here.
Youtube is another form of a search engine and because it's all video, it's one of the fastest ways to grow an audience.
You can create your own “how-to's” on youtube, have coffee talks and just give your audience massive value.
Online forums are another really great way to establish your expertise with your audience but they aren't used as much as they used to be.
You can pretty much find forums on any topic you've ever wanted to know about so it's easy to find one in your niche.
When people ask questions, show them you are the “go-to” person for your niche by answering their question in as much detail as you can.
This will help you get more comfortable showing off your knowledge.
These are just a few of the different ways you can establish your expertise with your target audience and remember, stick to trying out one at a time so it's not too overwhelming.
Always remember to never come across as spammy, scamming or pushy.
The point is to provide value.
