Reading Time: 6 minutesDo you want to make money blogging?
Such a loaded question right? I mean, of course, you do.
Or at least you probably do.
Anyway, if you're here reading this then yes, I'm going to assume you want to make money blogging.
And if you don't right now that's okay, save this for later and come back to it.
I'm going to take a dive into the nine different ways you can make money blogging and trust me, these work as long as you're willing to put in the work.
disclaimer: this post contains affiliate links which means I may make a small commision if you choose to purchase using my link at no cost to you. and if you do, I appreciate you.
One of the more passive ways to make money blogging is through affiliate marketing and it's definitely one of my personal favorites.
Essentially, affiliate marketing is signing up to become an affiliate for a certain company like Awin, Target, Ultimate Bundles, etc.
And promoting their products through relevant blog posts, Pinterest, Youtube and/or social media.
When someone uses your link (given to you by the affiliate company) you make a commission.
Commissions range anywhere from a few cents to a few hundred dollars or even a thousand dollars.
Of course, there's some strategy with this and it's not as simple as slapping on 500 affiliate links through every single post.
Trust and an engaged audience is extremely important for affiliate marketing to work.
Only promote quality products that you've personally used or have done extensive research on and make sure they are products your audience actually wants to buy.
Don't try to sell a puppy pacifier to an audience that came to your blog for personal development. (it doesn't work…trust me)
Take an even deeper dive into affiliate marketing with this comprehensive course that teaches you everything from the legal side of affiliate marketing to how to actually make money consistently.
Sponsored posts can be really fun to do because you're basically just getting paid to write and if you're a blogger then that's the DREAM.
Sponsored posts are posts that are sometimes a review of a certain product or the product is used for something particular throughout the post.
Of course, just like with affiliate marketing, make sure you test out this product first, make sure you enjoy working for the company and only write sponsored content for products you actually like.
To get sponsored content for your blog you can simply pitch to brands.
While we're on the topic of getting paid to write, you could offer freelancing services like blogging, proofreading or editing for other bloggers.
I know this isn't exactly a way to make money directly from your blog but having a blog does actually help build your credibility when trying to get freelance clients.
To offer your freelancing services you can simply add a services page to your blog telling your audience what you do, what your credentials are (yes this can be that you run your own blog) and start promoting.
You can also utilize freelancing job boards like ProBlogger, BloggingPro, Freelance Writing Jobs and many many more.
These boards are usually more for freelance writing.
If you'd like to dive in even deeper into freelance writing I highly recommend checking out Elna Cain's blog.
She has been freelancing writing for years and seriously knows her stuff.
You can also promote other freelance services such as Pinterest marketing, social media marketing or even setting up someone's blog on the back end if you're tech-savvy.
Creating a membership site or a monthly subscription on your blog is a great way to ensure that income is coming in each and every month.
A membership site must be made up of high quality and high-value content.
Including, webinars, podcasts, weekly strategy masterminds, one-on-one coaching and/or LIVE coaching sessions.
It's up to you what you have in your monthly membership but it has to be worth it.
Membership sites tend to be less passive because you will be spending much more time inside the membership talking and interacting with your paying customers.
Courses are probably the most obvious choice for making money from your blog because well, everyone is doing it.
But don't let that deter you!
You can create a course on literally anything that you think will benefit your audience, make them better, teach them something, make them more money.
Literally, the opportunities are endless.
Courses are a fantastic way to provide massive value to your audience all in one place.
Here's the thing, you don't have to be a complete and total expert, you just have to be an expert in the way that you teach.
Did you find a solution to a problem others have?
Did you find a shortcut to something that you know other people need?
Because you're already writing a blog about something, whatever that may be, you can expand on that and create a course out of it.
You can use Teachable, Thinkific or any other platform you feel comfortable using to create your course, market it to your audience and make an income!
Ebooks are a really fun way to make money from your blog because well, you already know you love to write because you're a blogger.
And you can easily expand on the ideas you are already talking about in your blog and turn them into an ebook.
If you blog about personal finance, create an ebook that dives into budgeting from start to finish and shows people how to set a budget that gets them out of debt.
An ebook can also be a little bit easier to create than courses because you don't have to be in front of a camera and are more in your element.
* IF your goal for this year is to increase your income and online visibility, consider writing an eBook. Ana of the She Approach has written and self-published not 1, but 3 ebooks and has captured her entire process (everything from creating, designing and launching a brand new eBook) in her course- Ebook Bestsellers Bootcamp.
Even though I mostly focus on digital items there's still a huge opportunity for selling physical products.
You can use a shop like Etsy or Shopify (free 14-day trial), set up your shop and link them to your blog to drive your blog traffic to your shop.
Learn how to drive traffic to your e-commerce shop in this post.
If you're not sure what to sell or create for your shop you can also sell digital downloads such as worksheets, digital art, baby shower games, digital planners and so on.
Another way to sell physical products is to dropship.
In dropshipping, you do not physically have the items in your shop and once someone purchases an item from you, you purchase the item from a third party and send the items directly to the customer.
You can learn more about dropshipping with this article.
Making money through ad revenue is one of the most passive ways to make income from your blog.
Ad revenue solely depends on the amount of traffic you get to your blog daily, weekly and monthly.
And depending on which ad service you are using, you can get as little as $20 a month up to $2000 a month.
You can use ad companies like Mediavine (requires 25,000 monthly sessions), Adthrive (requires 100,000 monthly pageviews), Google Adsense (no requirement) or any other recitable ad company you choose.
Most ad companies will place ads on your site that are dependant on your audience to increase click-throughs.
The biggest downside with ads is they can be annoying to your audience and/or slow down your site.
Another way to make money blogging is to actually sell your blog.
I know, I know, you worked so hard on it why in the heck would you sell it?
But, you can actually make thousands of dollars (20k, 30k..etc.) from selling your blog depending on a couple of factors.
How much money your blog is making each month, how many posts you have, your domain authority, etc.
Some people want to purchase a blog that will make them money right off the bat and others just don't want to purchase a blog that's already set up.
If you know how to set up a blog and make it profitable, you could easily sell your blogs.
You can also flip blogs.
The idea is similar to flipping a house but on a smaller scale.
Purchase a blog that needs some work, fix it up, make it profitable and re-sell it.
You can use a site like Flippa to find and sell your blogs or do it privately.
