Reading Time: 4 minutesHaving trouble getting people to stay on your blog? Grow your blog and attract more readers with these tips!
Thinking of growing your blog? I think having and maintaining a blog site is a brilliant idea. It gives you the perfect opportunity to push your creativity by providing compelling content regularly. Also, you can use your blogsite to optimize your website for SEO and connect with your viewers to build a community. On the plus side, presenting your expertise on a blog site helps establish trust and credibility.
When done right, blogging could take your business in front of your clients. A simple search online and boom – your website is seen by millions of people thanks to your awesome content.
But there’s more to blogging than publishing content. It’s not just about giving insights or growing your viewership. It’s about keeping your readers engaged too. It’s about connecting with people so that they’ll be more than happy to see what other amazing things you have to offer on your website.
Now here’s the thing, getting people’s attention with your blog is one thing and keeping people to STAY on your blog is another. Worse, some people leave your blogsite and NEVER come back! What could you be doing wrong?
If your blog site takes forever and a day to load, readers will be quick to hop to your competitors. We’re so used to consuming information online within seconds that we’ve become impatient. No one likes to wait more than five seconds for a website page to load. Most times, viewers will only wait 3 seconds for a website to load. Otherwise, they leave and never come back!
To avoid this, check your loading times regularly. Compress huge files like images or graphics-heavy content to maintain a snappy loading time.
Fluff is off-putting, avoid it at all cost. Your blog should provide useful information to your readers; otherwise, what's the point? By providing real value, you are building trust, credibility, and a bigger viewership! Be sure that your content is connecting with the right people. Highlight topics that resonate with your viewers. Prioritize content that helps people, not to please Google.
Confusing navigation, ugly design elements, hard-to-read texts, bad colour combinations, and a design that looks off on a small screen, all these will put people off. Be sure that your blog site is easy to use, the design elements complement each other, and always use a mobile-friendly design.
It’s tricky to get people to stay on your blog longer because online users are an impatient lot. But don’t worry, I know a few tricks! If you want to grow your blog site, here are sure-fire ways to get people to stay on your blog longer:
Internal links are URLs or links that lead viewers to other pages of your blogsite. Building internal links is one of the best ways to get people to stay on your website while also driving traffic to low-performing blog pages.
The key to a successful linking campaign is relevance. The links that you are embedding into your blog should always be relevant to the topic and valuable to your viewers. For example, if you are talking about designer bags, perhaps you can add a link to another one of your blogs, this time talking about caring for different leathers. Don’t add a link about selling cupcakes when blogging about gemstones because the topics are not related at all.
I also suggest using a related posts plugin to reinforce your internal linking strategy. This a software that pulls all of your previous posts that are related to a specific blog post. The related posts are outlined below the blog post so readers could simply click the links after reading.
How to turn casual readers into loyal subscribers? Give your readers something to look forward to every week or month. Publishing high-quality blog posts consistently, build viewership. By consistently putting out fresh content, people will start anticipating the next new blog posts. Eventually, they’ll start coming to your blog site regularly, and pretty soon, they’ll hit the subscribe button so they’ll never miss new content.
Ultimately, people will come to you if they feel a deep connection with your brand. Some of the ways to connect with readers through blogging involve:
Using a warm, friendly tone puts people at ease. Talk to your readers as if you are a friend, not a robot. Your blog posts should cover topics that are close to your ideal client’s heart to make a connection. Offer real value, if your blog posts are helpful, people will come to you for advice. Be sure that your blog posts are free from typos and obvious grammatical mistakes because these will put people off real quick. Finally, and most importantly, no hard selling.
Look for creative ways to persuade people to sell your service and do it in the most subtle ways possible. Remember, you are offering valuable insights to your client, not to sell your product.
… and there you have it, blogging tips that worked for me! Blogging may be a different ball game for some designers out there, but once you start blogging, you’ll attract more people to your website. And keeping these best practices in mind ensures that people will stay LONGER on your website and explore all the amazing things that your website has to offer!
