I love my website! It looks so professional and I know it will give my potential clients more confidence in my business and abilities, and generate more sales!
Jessica Starr – The Old Barn
You know that feeling when you just click with someone? That's exactly what happened when I met Jessica last October, and I knew right away that we were a match made in heaven. And after a few months of working together I am beyond excited to announce the re-launch of The Old Barn blog and floor plan store.
Jessica is an incredible home blogger and entrepreneur who sells dreamy home floor plans on her site. Her passion for all things home and design is truly contagious, and I couldn't wait to jump on board and collaborate with her. We put our heads together and, let me tell you, magic happened!
Together, we've been working tirelessly to rebuild and redesign Jessica's blog to create a cozy, welcoming space where you can indulge in your love for everything home. We wanted to make sure that her blog not only looked amazing, but also provided valuable content to inspire and help you create your dream home.
But the excitement doesn't stop there! We've also given her online store a complete makeover, and it's now filled with the most beautiful, carefully curated floor plans so you can build your dream home.
What's more? We've been secretly working on a sales page for Jessica's brand-new course that's launching soon. Trust me when I say, you're not going to want to miss this!
my favorite part was getting in the backend and playing around with things myself. It is so easy! I was really worried, I would not be able to maintain and update it myself, but I absolutely can!

We asked Jessica a few questions:
Tell me a bit about your business and what brought you to start it in the first place?
I have a passion for good home design and I love to help others create a home that loves them back. My floor plans were selling well despite the fact that they were hidden in the depths of my website (Pre Gillian). But, I kept hearing from clients who needed me to scale down their plans because of the cost to build these days. That hurts my heart. I want everyone to be able to afford their dreams…not a scaled-down version. So I am adding a program for taking couples who may know nothing about Construction and turning them into Owner-Builders so they can afford to build their dream home, without lifting a hammer and build significant equity at the same time. My husband and I have done this twice and so we help people navigate the process of self-contracting so they can start living their dream.
What is one lesson that you wish you knew from the beginning?
I wish I had planned better for the quick growth my business experienced. I now know it's best to hire experts in specific parts of your business to do those parts. It will save so much time and headache of you trying to learn the stuff the pros already know.
What was your “AH-HA” moment that made you take the plunge with a new site design?
I designed and built my own home and shared the process on Instagram. I soon had a bunch of followers and almost daily requests to sell my floor plans. It made sense because I have a Masters in Architecture and I had taken time off while my kids were little but now they are bigger and much more independent, so the timing was good too.
Out of all the amazing designers out there, why did you decide to work with us?
I've heard of and seen Gillian's beautiful websites so many places and each one is unique and beautiful and carefully constructed. After speaking to Gillian in person, I knew she was the one for the job.
What was your favourite part of the design process?
As a solo entrepreneur, it is often difficult to pry my hands off the steering wheel and give control to someone else, but at some point, I had to accept that I am not a website professional. Somehow, I felt totally comfortable with giving this over to experienced people who know so much more about creating a successful website than I do. I felt my specific, individual needs were understood and achievable. But my favorite part was getting in the backend and playing around with things myself. It is so easy! I was really worried, I would not be able to maintain and update it myself, but I absolutely can! If you can use Canva, you can do this!
