Reading Time: 2 minutesWhen you think of how a business contributes to its environment, you may begin to think of how a business influences the environment. Of course, that’s certainly an essential point to consider, so you would be correct.
However, that’s not the end of the story. More than contributing to the environment surrounding it is an environment that a business is situated within, such as a local community, its network of staff members, and its customer or client list.
In some cases, businesses even weigh into celebrating or pushing forward social causes, such as how they may celebrate pride month every summer, or make it clear that inclusivity is something to cherish.
It’s good to ask yourself just how your own business contributes to its environment, too. This can help you implement a better network of health decisions that lead to the most worthwhile and competent outcomes in the long run. In this post, we hope to help you consider what those may be, and how they contribute to the life of your firm:
How you interface with the local community can determine how supported you are within that area, or what social impact you have. For example, you may decide to sponsor local events, or provide a booth at local business conventions to contribute, and as such get your name out there. It could just be that as a small business, you hope to support the local football team with a sponsorship, with fundraising that matters while also maybe getting your name in the team kit. It’s not hard to see how community support often pays dividends.
Your staff are the individuals you have the most influence over for the most part, because they dedicate part of their lives towards structuring and supporting your enterprise. This is why it’s important to make sure they’re well-looked-after, by cultivating excellent training measures and even discounted wholesale health supplies to ensure the office environment is as hygienic as it could be. Staff wellbeing, even if that means running mental health awareness campaigns at work with confidential spaces to talk, can help you determine your brand as a forward-thinking, people-first, labor-appreciative company that more and more people wish to work for.
Every firm has some kind of social influence, no matter how minor that is. You get to decide the extent of what kind of impact you have. So for example, many firms will focus on showcasing how important diversity is in their brand, making sure that anyone who wishes to apply to the firm has their name, gender and racial identity wiped from the application so those who review the candidates will have no implicit bias in who they hire. In some cases, businesses have even taken a stand against recently legislation. Depending on your beliefs and presence as a firm, you can decide how well it will contribute to the environment. Is there a ‘right answer’ here? Perhaps not. But it’s another avenue by which to shape the values of your firm.
With this advice, you’re sure to see how your business contributes to its environment in the best possible light.
