It is my absolute pleasure to showcase the brand new “Cali Girl in a Southern World” home and lifestyle farmhouse blog by Meeghan Aimone! This was such a joy to work on (and not just because of the pictures of baby goats).
Meeghan moved from Califonia to North Carolina with her husband a few years ago to truly embrace a lifestyle change. She now lives in the most gorgeous farmhouse, surrounded by the cutest animals. Seriously, check out her Instagram for adorable goats, chunky pigs, and two hilarious ducks! She spends her days exploring home decor and delicious recipes which really do make you hungry just looking at them. She is a great example of someone who is thriving in a more “simple living” life.
Together we designed a new lifestyle blog for her to truly make her work shine. The simple soothing colours match her home aesthetic and subtle floral illustrations add a touch of country. I would recommend Meeghan's blog to any and all animal, food, and home decor lovers out there!
Tell me a bit about your business and what brought you to start it in the first place?
After living a fast-paced life in Southern California where time with our children seemed to be slipping away, we decided as a family to make a lifestyle change. Five years ago we moved from the hustle and bustle of the suburbs to a slower pace in the country. I traded in my desk job, high heels, and briefcase for a barn, rubber boots, and feed pail. There seemed to be tremendous interest in the story behind our lifestyle change and about what I do daily in the country which leads me to start my blog, Cali Girl In A Southern World.
What is one lesson that you wish you knew from the beginning?
One lesson I wish I knew from the beginning is that there is plenty of space for everyone on the internet. I dragged my heels about starting my website for quite some time because I thought the market was saturated and I didn't think my story and what I had to offer was unique or special enough to gain reader interest. What I have learned since is that there is always someone interested and that there is plenty of space out there for everyone.
What was your “AH-HA” moment that made you take the plunge into this business?
My “AH-HA” moment was when I started to get inquiries from people after sharing my story on social media. Our lifestyle change was resonating with people and I wanted to share and connect with them more. That's when I decided to start my blog. To this day, I get several emails a week from people who are considering a lifestyle change or made a lifestyle change because they find our story inspiring. As others find interest in what I share, my confidence about sharing it increases on my website. Now, I share more about our day to day life than I ever thought I would through DIYs, recipes, farm life, funny stories, and home decor. I love connecting with my readers.
Out of all the amazing designers out there, why did you decide to work with us?
I chose you because you have a gift for designing a website around the person, not the person around the website. So many website designers make cookie-cutter sites. You take the time to get to know your clients, learn about what they love, what is important to them, and the image they want to promote. Once you understand those things you design a website for them that becomes a true reflection of who they are. Each site is unique. That's EXACTLY what I wanted, a website that fully encompassed who I am and that was unlike anyone else's.
What was your favourite part of the design process?
My favourite part of the design process was seeing the initial design you came up with for me after getting to know me. It was like Christmas morning and it was such a wonderful surprise! It was so much fun to see how what you had learned about me had translated to the new design of my website. It was wonderful! From there, it was so much fun tweaking and perfecting every aspect of the site together to make it mine. Doing the little things together allowed me to truly feel like part of the process; like I had a hand in it, even though you did all the real work. You were so easy and fun to work with, Gillian!
