Thank you for sharing! Very informative!

  2. Ariz says:

I’m also blogging using WordPress. Still have a lot to learn.
    Thank you for the info.

Very nice and neat blog by the way!

    • Emily says:

There’s a lot to learn about WordPress but once you get the hang of it it’s a really incredible blogging platform! Thank you so much, Ariz!

  3. Aylén says:

Thanks for the information! Definitely, your blog is a must-read!

  4. Rajlakshmi says:

Great tutorial. I have always been torn between siteground and bluehost… The configuration looks easy to follow. Thanks for the post 😊

  5. This is such a great post about helping someone step by step through setting up their website. Thanks for sharing. Very informative

  6. I’m glad I never had to worry about it!

    • Emily says:

haha yeah, there can be a bit of a learning curve with WordPress and hosting and whatnot, but I’ve set up four different blogs with WordPress now so I’m much more familiar with it!

  7. This is so helpful for someone that is just starting, I love the way you explained self hosting vs renting 😉

  8. This is very useful. Siteground is wonderful, but as far as tech support you have to speak tech to understand them. Will you include a step by step home to integrate email? I have subscribers, but I know they haven’t been receiving their weekly blogs. I reset the API but I don’t know if it I did it right until tomorrow because I set a scheduled email to EU subscribers about the GDPR. Let me know, thanks!

    • Emily says:

Thank you, Bonnie! Oh, I’m sorry you’ve found SiteGround tech support difficult to understand. I’m not tech savvy and really cannot understand tech language so I always tell them right off the bat to explain everything slowly! I apologize, I’m not really sure I understand your question. This may be an issue with WordPress or whoever you’re using to have your clients sign up via email. I personally just have email set up via WordPress for people who only want my weekly blogs and Mailchimp for those who sign up for my freebies.

  9. Rachel says:

Such a great tutorial! I was afraid to do this myself when the time came!

    • Emily says:

Thank you so much, Rachel! Tech stuff always makes me a bit nervous too!! It’s just not my strong suit!

  10. Marta Rivera says:

Great info for those who need a revamp or are just starting out as bloggers!

  11. Lee says:

I recently switched from Blogger to WordPress. I ended up hiring someone to help me get my WordPress going and transfer over my posts from Blogger. I am so happy with WordPress, it is so much easier to use than I thought it would be.

    • Emily says:

That’s fantastic, Lee! I completely agree, while there is a lot to learn on WordPress it’s definitely a lot easier to use than I thought it would be as well!

  12. Chanell says:

Thank you so much for the step-by-step guide, you truly did help clarify quit a bit for me!

  13. Great insight! WordPress can be so intimidating sometimes!

  14. Kelsey says:

I’m on blogger but am saving this incase I switch to WordPress! xo

  15. Helen Little says:

This is great advice, thank you for laying it out so clearly. I’m currently self-hosted and it was a big leap! But so worth it.

    • Emily says:

Thank you so much, Helen! I’ve recently moved all of my blogs over to self-hosted as well and I’m so happy I did!!

  16. Great post. I think setting up a WordPress blog is much easier than many people realize. I’ve never used SiteGround. Generally, I set up on GoDaddy or Bluehost. Have you found it to be reliable?

    • Emily says:

Thank you, Keelie! Yes, I completely agree! I’ve also used GoDaddy for other websites and I think it works fine. I do find SiteGround to be really reliable and I just really enjoyed their customer service and how easy they made it for me to set up and transfer two blogs over to SiteGround.

  17. CJ says:

I also just transferred my website to a new host. I had to set up wordpress again and I can confirm that the steps in this article will work on other web hosting sites as well

  18. Ally says:

I recently just went through this entire process. Instead of using siteground, I use bluehost!

  19. Amber Myers says:

This is so helpful! I’ll have to pass it onto friends who want to start a blog. I might eventually switch to WordPress as well.

  20. Yes, is very useful. I have a free WordPress account, and because of that, I can’t enable rich pins. Because I know Pinterest the best when it comes to social media I really want to be able to do that, so I have to move my blog to a paid plan. My question is if I choose to upgrade my wordpress.com to a premium plan, will I be transported to wordpress.org? or is it still wordpress.com? Have you tried it?

    • Emily says:

Thank you, Cristina! That’s a bummer. Yeah, Pinterest is really fantastic for blogger’s traffic especially new ones! No, if you choose to upgrade to a premium plan on wordpress.com you will still be hosted by wordpress.com which means you will still have limitations and it will cost you a LOT more to do it that way. If you want to install a wordpress.org account you need to have a hosting company, like SiteGround or BlueHost. Transfering your wordpress.com blog to a wordpress.org blog is really easy and you should be able to transfer everything, ie. social shares, comments, blog posts, etc. Getting a web host like BlueHost or SiteGround will only cost about $65 a year whereas I believe a premium plan on wordpress.com is well over $200 a year.

  21. Joan Cajic says:

This is really good for anyone who needs advice on starting a blog and the information is pretty useful.

  22. Jessica Taylor says:

I use WordPress and it is so much easier than platforms I have tried in the past. I really need to try siteground, but haven’t gotten around to it yet.

    • Emily says:

I love WordPress too! I find it so easy to use once you get used to it! I really really love SiteGround but have heard good things about other hosting companies as well.

  23. Dona says:

I did this with my 2nd blog. I love the freedom that I have. I am able to install plugins where I want them. The support offered by Siteground is outstanding.

    • Emily says:

That’s fantastic, Dona!! Yes exactly!! There is so much more freedom that comes with a self-hosted site! I’m so glad you’re loving SiteGround as well!

  24. Ann Snook-Moreau says:

This post was very informational. I remember when I started blogging, I did not know where to start or even how to start, but with good guidance, I was able to plant my foot in the ground and make it happen.

  33. KARAMEL_KC says:

Where was this post when I was starting out, thank goodness for google. Great guide, thanks very useful.

  34. I have heard siteground a lot of times and I find it too dedicated for its clients. The price isn’t too steep as well considering the services and commitment they give.

  35. Felicia says:

Hi. I find this very interetsing. My hots is blogger/blogspot and I wanted to switch to WordPress. Will my pageviews and comments be carried over as well?

    • Emily says:

Hello, Felicia! Unfortunately, I’ve never used blogger/blogspot before so I’m not 100% sure if everything would transfer, but if you are able to export your data, social shares, comments, all blog posts etc. then your comments should transfer over. When I transferred both of my blogs I was able to export the data and my comments and social shares all transferred but I don’t remember the page views transferring. But once I moved to WordPress.org my pageviews greatly increased so it worked out in the end!
